Singh calls for more campus placements

19th Annual General Body meeting of NERIST Society

NIRJULI, June 22: Governor General J.J Singh has stressed on more campus placement of the students of NERIST.

Singh hoped that the Institute’s products are exceptionally poised for taking up challenging tasks under Look East policy, Mega Hydro Projects, Aerodromes, Mega bridges/ High way infrastructure needs in North Eastern area through its appropriate academic programmes of Science and Technology.

The Governor said this while presiding over the 19th Annual General Body meeting of NERIST Society at the campus in Nirjuli today.

He said that NERIST, with is Deemed University status is the first institute of its kind in the region to launch a modular pattern of education offering certificate, diploma and degree level programmes in various branches and expressed his satisfaction over the pattern of education that have succeeded in achieving its objective as an acclaimed centre of excellence in Technology and Management and is being emulated by other institutes of repute in the country. The students have tremendous potential as catalysts to carry out reforms as the most important partners in the development process, Singh added.

Besides other programmes, the Institute has carried out several prestigious projects and sponsored research from reputed organizations and endeavors to reach out from lab to Land, he stated. The strong R & D base has aided in the development of trained man power and created an expertise in the areas of priority like Agriculture, Horticulture Development, Food Processing, Medicinal Plants, Bio-Fuels, Bamboo technology etc. in a unique way contributing to the all round development of the region, the Governor said, adding that it also supports appropriate technology development, rural development and other activities influencing the life and economy of the rural populations in the state and its neighborhood.

He however emphasized on students-related activities, training and placement and creation of the state of the art communicational and computational facilities in the Institute. The Governor further asked the members of the NERIST Society to ensure that such meetings are held regularly with maximum participation representing the member states.

Earlier, the Governor inaugurated an Integrated Bio-Diesal Reactor Plant and a New Guest House, a sixteen room building with all modern facilities at NERIST Complex. Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, the Integrated Bio-Diesal Reactor system was implemented with the main objectives to cover up all aspects of plantation of indigenous biodiesal yielding plant species, production and procurement of seeds, extraction of raw oil, production of bio-diesal, blending and trade and research and development and training to the local people of the state.

Earlier, Director NERIST Joram Begi highlighted the activities of NERIST as a premier Institute of the North East. He later presented the annual report of the society before the board.

The meeting also discussed and certified the minutes of the last year’s general body meeting of the Society, besides discussing on increasing the intake capacity of students and deciding on the action plan of the Society. The prog was attended by the Chairman NERIST Society and Director IIT, Guwahati Prof Gautam Barua, Secretary to Governor Ankur Garg and other Board members including representatives from respective NE states. FIR against students’ body for extortion

Ziro, June 22: The Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner, Sadhana Deori, today filed a First Information Report (FIR) in the Ziro Police Station against All Lower Subansiri Students Union (ALSSU) for extortion from members of business community of Ziro, after receiving complaints from the members of Ziro Chambers of Commerce and Industries (ZCCI) and business community. The move by the DC came after business community failed to file an FIR against the students’ body. The alleged extortion led to closure of shops for over 48 hours since June 21, morning.

In view of hardship faced by the general public, the DC has also issued an executive order directing all shopkeepers to immediately re-open their shops.

The ZCCI members alleged that district’s apex students’ body schedule to conduct its election-cum-conference from June 29th to 30th next at Yazali is demanding huge money from the members of the business community of Ziro, beyond their paying capacity.

Though vociferously opposing the alleged activities of ALSSU members, the ZCCI failed to file and FIR for lack of hard evidence of the alleged extortion and requested the District Administration to ban donations by student bodies from the business community.

SP, Mari Riba, ADC, W. Thikhak and other administrative and police officers while taking part in the meeting assured to take immediate and strong action against the extortionists and asked the business community to name and file FIR against particular person involved.

Meanwhile, former MLA Nani Ribia in a letter to Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri District, said that due to the consecutive two-day shutter down protest against the forceful donation, extortion, selling of lotteries and housie tickets in Hapoli and Old Ziro Bazar, the public of the district are unable to get their basic daily needs.

He also appraised the problems to the Chief Secretary to intervene into the matter.

Siram calls for adequate infrastructure support under ICT

NEW DELHI, June 22: Education Minister Bosiram Siram has stressed on the need for adequate infrastructural support including computers peripherals and trainings to the school teachers under ICT for Sustainable Development.

While attending the high profile meeting and power panel discussion on “Leveraging ICT for Sustainable Development in North East Region” under the initiatives of NEC and INTEL in Delhi yesterday, Siram said that ICT would provide enough access to knowledge, quality education, health, employment, tourism and good governance. He said difficult working condition, remote locations and geographical factors should always be kept in consideration for implementation of ICT projects in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Public Private Partnership (PPP) between NEC and INTEL in NE Region which would surely hasten the process of mainstreaming of Arunachal Pradesh and will go a long way in ensuring empowerment of the youth in the state, Siram hoped.

Education Ministers, Secretaries and Directors of North East States, representatives from DoNER, HRD, C and IT ministries including Head of the Corporate Affairs group of Intel took part in the meeting which was addressed by DoNER and Mines Minister B.K. Handique.

Siram was accompanied by Education commissioner Hage Khoda, director of school education, T. Taloh, joint director T. Padu, SSA SPD P.N. Thungon and OSD D.K Chaturvedi.

E-Nyayik Panjika launched

ITANAGAR, June 22: A computer Software E-Nyayik Panjika for General Register of Police cases of Itanagar Capital Complex has been launched by Deputy Commissioner, Padmini Singla today at Naharlagun.

E-Nyayik Panjika records the case detail including FIR, Investigation report and Final judgment. It would maintain entire database of judicial records electronically facilitating the retrieval of information/ reports/details at the click of the mouse.The software has been developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC), Capital Complex by a team comprising Sandip Chakraborty, DIO-Capital and Sameer Rajan, Scientific Officer/ Engineer.

The inputs for the software were provided by Habung Lampung, CO (Jud.) cum Judicial Magistrate 15t Class, Naharlagun and staffs of Judicial Branch. In inaugural function, Singla appreciated the team for their initiative in using IT in judiciary. It is the pioneering effort in the direction of providing efficient services to citizens in judicial side which till date was not thought of, she said.

144 Cr PC imposed to avert any kind of law & order problem: ADC

ITANAGAR, June 22: ADC, Miao T Mara has said that section 144 Cr PC was imposed in Miao area in the interest of public and as per Govt. directions and High Court order.

Reacting to a news item in this daily, he said that section 144 Cr PC was imposed by ADC cum Additional District Magistrate, Miao in Miao Town and in M'Pen village as a precautionary measure to avert any kind of law and order problem.

As per direction of High Court Guwahati of dated 07/6/2010, it is ordered to maintain status quo in the said land and instructions were also given by D.C. Changlang to maintain law & order situation at all costs, he informed. SIB/SB inputs were also there regarding apprehension of retaliation by Chakma inhabitants if any attempts were made by Singpho Community to occupy the land at M'Pen village.

As per direction of High Court and order of ADC, Miao, land in question at M'Pen village was evicted several times from Chakma encroachers and were handed over to Thuing Singphgo, however she could not take possession of the said land.

On June 18, people of Singpho development Society organized a team from Miao, Bordumsa, Diyun and Margherita, Assam for taking possession of the land. However, Miao Administration did not allow the people who gathered with two bulldozers, trucks, Construction materials labour to proceed to the M'Pen village, he further said.

He further said that Section of 144 Cr PC was not imposed by Gautam Hazarika, EAC, Miao who was looking after normal duties in absence of ADC, Miao on tour, he clarified.

He further added that matters were discussed with Singpho leaders and students to convince them to obey the Court and government orders.

Lowangdong in committee to suggest ways to improve question Hour

NAHARLAGUN, June 22: Speaker Wanglin Lowangdong has been made a member of the eight- member Committee of Presiding Officers constituted by Meira Kumar Speaker Lok Sabha to look into the problem of disruption of Question Hour in detail and suggest the remedial measures at the earliest. Meira Kumar is the Chairperson of the 75th Conference of Presiding Officers, which concluded yesterday at Srinagar.

The said Committee is headed under the chairmanship of K. Rahman, Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha.

On one of the main subjects of the five-day Conference -‘Growing tendency to disrupt the Question Hour and the need to check it’ besides Lowangdong many Speakers of the country also took part in the discussion. The House has appreciated the vital and important points raised by Lowangdong.

After long deliberations on the agenda No.1 the Conference resolved that Legislatures can be successful only if they have an effective Committee system in place. Committee system in particular the standing committees be implemented in all legislatures in the country expeditiously. Urgent measures be taken for removal of inadequacies wherever prevailing, in the existing Committee systems and based on the experience of Parliamentary Committees, as far as practicable, all legislature in India may adopt a uniform Committee System. NESO calls for peace along the border

ITANAGAR, June 22: Speaking at Rabha Diwas as guest of honour in Silapathar, Dhemaji District, Assam on June 20, Secretary General, North East Students' Organization (NESO) Gumjum Haider appealed to the dwellers of border area between Assam and Arunachal, to maintain peace and harmony for the healthier growth of the most backward region of the country. There should be regular cultural exchange programme between communities residing in the border areas to understand the feelings and sentiments of each other. He further deplored the border skirmishes between the two Border States.

Haider appealed the gathering to fight against foreigners and Bangla-deshis before they are swamped by them.

Dr. Samujjal Bhatta-charya, the Chairman NESO, speaking on the occasion as a Chief Guest, appealed the people of border area to create friendly atmosphere and start people to people dialogue between the indigenous communities. He said, the NESO has been created to give a platform to all the warring indigenous to know each other and solve the misunderstanding of the region through mutual dialogue.

The President of the Takam Missing Porin Kebang(TMPK)Johan Dolay, attending the programmes as Special Guest also spoke on the occasion. Later in the evening, Indian Idol Debojit Saha, enthralled the people with his popular numbers. The program was organized by All Assam Students' Union (AASU) Central Committee.

Dept to call for advance release of assistance

ITANAGAR, June 22: The Department of Cooperation will submit a proposal to the Managing Director, NCDC, New Delhi for advance release of balance assistance of Rs.66.14 lakh against subsidy component of the ICDP besides extension of validity period for another 3 months w.e.f. July 1. This decision was taken in a review meeting of the cooperation department for implementation of the various NCDC schemes at RCS office Naharlagun today. Meeting also aims at reviewing the preparation for organising a workshop followed by a State Level Seminar to be sponsored by the ICDP, Arunachal Pradesh, Naharlagun.

The review meeting convened by Cooperation Minister Tanga Byaling was also attended by parliamentary secretary, Cooperation, Nido Pavitra, secretary cooperation A.B. Shukla and officers of the Department of Cooperation and Cooperative organizations.

After detailed discussion, the meeting also decided to constitute a committee comprising of R.D. Thongon, JRCS (Dev), S. Laskar, DGM, ICDP and T. Bage, MD, APCCF headed by Parliamentary secretary to workout the details for organising proposed seminar, workshop and to coordinate all concerns for successful implementation of schemes. It was also decided to organize a meeting of the District officers for identifying the existing cooperatives and for organizing new cooperative societies to undertake activities of the potential sectors highlighted by the Parliamentary Secretary Coop.

Earlier, Pavitro highlighted the outcome of his recent meetings with NCDC authorities at New Delhi.

He disclosed that the potential sectors opened up in Arunachal Pradesh after amendment of the NCDC Act. These potentials sectors include tourism and hotel, Micro Hydel, surface transport for passengers, rural housing, stone crushing units, tea factories and plantation, cane, bamboo and wood based industries.

CEWU threatens stir from July 3

ITANAGAR, June 22: Contract Employees and workers of Dibang Multipurpose project have urged the chairman cum managing director of the NHPC limited to fulfill their demands within a period of 10 days beginning from June 22.

The Contract Employees and Worker Union (CEWU) of the DMP has been demanding implementation of the minimum rate of wages under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 and revised by the union labour ministry.

Pointing out several memorandums submitted on DMP GM on Feb 16, March 22 and June 10 in favour of its demands, the union threatened to launch 12-hour strike in front of NHPC office premises at Itanagar, Dibang and Tawang projects and office premises of DMP, GM at Roing, Pasighat and liaison office at Dibrugarh from July 3 if the authorities fail to give positive response within the stipulated time.

AICU is a secular organization with a culture of helping others

ITANAGAR June 22: While interacting with the members of newly formed Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Union (APCU), Prof. Remi Denis, the president of All India Catholic Union (AICU), who visited the state for the first time clarified that Catholic Union is a secular organization. With the motto of helping others which has become their culture, the union is now educating students from non-Christian families. The AICU has been a voice for democracy for 91 years until now. Many bills have been amended, reformed or removed due to the constant vigilance of AICU.

Replying to some queries on freedom of unions and associations, he said that the Canon Law provides freedom. Any person or groups can form associations or unions under any banner within a religion, but to use the word Catholic, it has to be approved by the Bishop. ‘The priests are in the world but not of the world, we are in the world and of the world. Religious matters are theirs and secular matters are ours. There is no conflict in this regards’, he said humorously. The Catholic union is an autonomous body,

Dr. Denis also assured some grants for the people of Arunachal Pradesh. The AICU shall give a sum of Rs. 10,000 every year to those people who work for the betterment of women. Around 3 to 4 applications shall be considered from those two Catholic Colleges so that the AICU can sponsor some students that really deserve in their studies. Another 10 persons that are doing degree courses in law, agriculture or other professional courses shall be sponsored by AICU.

Tok Buttum, the president of Arunachal Pradesh Catholic Union (APCU) highlighted on the fast developmental changes of the people after the establishments of the Catholic Church. There are now 3 colleges, 55 schools and 17 health units and one hospital in entire Arunachal Pradesh that are run by the Catholic institutions. Around 25000 to 30000 students are studying in these institutions. While thanking the State Government’s decisions to give educational grants, he said that the government should give more fund every year in future for these institutions so that the Catholic Community could continue to contribute to the development of the state in a better way.

Rev. Fr. KO Sebastian in his deliberation said that the Catholic Church in Arunachal Pradesh is an ever growing Church.

Boa Tarin, the first and oldest Catechist highlighted about the persecutions of early Christians in the state some 40 years back.

Mra on mission to Mt Denali

Itanagar, June 22: Everester Tapi Mra accompanied by Lobsang Phuntsok of Tawang Tours and Travels, reached Alaska in United States of America. The dare devil mountaineer is scheduled to start his journey to the base camp, around 200 kilometers from Anchorage, the capital of Alaska within a day or two.

Supported by Taro Opey Foundation (TOF), the boy from Lemiking area in Upper Subansiri district is set to conquer the world’s coldest peak, located in Alaska State of North America continent.

This is the third summit for Mra after successfully climbing the world’s highest peak Mount Everest on May 21, 2009 and later conquering Mt Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in the Africa continent in February this year.

Taro Chatung, chairman of TOF informed that Mra reached the Alaska’s capital on 18 June last and is presently making preparation for the final assault.

Phuntsok is organizing the expedition from Delhi to New York where he stayed with Mra for ten days before proceeding towards Alaska, Chatung informed adding, at New York Lobsang made all arrangements in regard to the summit. Lobsang is also sponsoring Mra’s trip from New Delhi to New York and vice versa. Chatung while lauding the initiative of Lobsang thanked him for all the support.

Meanwhile, Chatung lauded the initiative of regional office of SBI here, for contributing an amount of eighty five thousand to Mra for his expedition. The amount has already been transferred to Alaska on 18th last, Chatung added.

“Maximum portion of the expenditure for this expedition has been raised by Home Minister Tako Dabi from various well wishers,” Chatung informed, while extending his gratitude to him for his noble gesture.

Do we really deserve to be a full pledged state?

Dear Editor,

These days moving around the capital is getting very dangerous and strenuous. If anyone wants to stay alive he needs to creep along at the pace of a snail or have that extra skill to maneuver the vehicle around and better still an extra pair of hand. The obvious reason behind this drama is the never ending and omnipresent potholes in the streets of the capital. It is quite confusing whether you are driving on the streets of the capital of a state or you are a participant in an extreme motor sports. Right from the entry point at Banderdewa, the 'so-called' roads depicts the sorry state of the affairs of the state. So, what is the concerned authority doing to address this menacing problem? The only solution that I have seen the departments do is fill up the potholes with mud, which either blows away with the wind when it is sunny or gets washed away when it is raining. Add to the entire erratic traffic scenario is the heart wrenching and nauseating smell of the garbage that welcomes everybody. Every nook and corner is strewn and filled with garbage. But not only the capital, this regrettable situation is prevalent and it is the sorry tale of all the districts. It is embarrassing, but I have to admit that my hometown Daporijo is also very notorious for its garbage-face, the very bad road conditions and mosquitoes. But one cannot expect much in the districts, when the capital itself is in shambles. But here I am not saying that this can stand as a justification for not maintaining the districts.

I am not a master of law, but at least being a legal practitioner, within my limited knowledge I do feel that these conditions of the state are gross violations of our fundamental rights. The article 21 of the constitution of the India guarantees to all person protection of life and personal liberty. In its widest magnitude, the article ensures us a life, free from any restrain and the right to enjoy our life to the fullest with dignity. Anything that affects the quality of our life is within the ambit of the article 21 and these guaranteed rights cannot be taken away by anyone. The present condition of the roads poses a serious threat to the life and liberty of a person and the garbage littered face of the state is curtailing our rights to a clean environment. So can the state get away with it?

It is not believable that there is lack of fund, rather I believe it is the lack of will and it is unbelievable that Arunachal- a poor state is teeming with crorepati politicians, how is it possible? Moreover why do all the organisations and the pressure groups are always silent on these basic issues which affect and concern every individual in the society.

I do feel that Arunachal- a state without any source of revenue except for the meager inflow through the tourism sector and the highly controversial hydro projects, is not befitting to be given the status of a full-pledged state and our state is miserably failing to do its duties as a welfare state.

IGNOU: The People’s University’

Dear Editor,

An anonymous comment titled “I am not asking for the sky” appeared in the Reader’s Forum of “Arunachal Times” on 21st June regarding untoward lapses of ‘IGNOU’ Regional Centre Itanagar about a telephone interaction with a student regarding the distribution of study materials and late publication of admission notices of this branch may not be applicable in true sense. IGNOU has been interacting with the students through Print and Electronic media wherever feasible but equivalent responsibility lies on the university as well students, since we are imparting education through open and distance learning system. The IGNOU branch here has been obliging with requisite information as regards the programme and alterations if any.

As the non receipt of study material by the particular student is concerned, the decentralized distribution of study materials from the Regional Centre is in practice from the July 2008 Session. This had already been brought to notice of all the valuable learners through the leading newspapers of this region on 24th June 2008 and 26th July 2008 for July 2008 admission cycle. It had been clearly mentioned in the notice that “Study materials for all the courses will be distributed from Regional Centre, Naharlagun”. The same has been published for July 2009 admission cycle also. Hence it is a baseless allegation. Students those who join after July 2008 cycle are introduced to the new system of distribution. This is informed to the students during the time of admission itself. However study materials may be sent to the study centres on request by the respective coordinators for the convenience of the students.

As per his/her personal experience about late publication of admission notices, it is to be informed here that we give advertisement almost three months before the start of the new session, and not less than 5 advertisements for July Session and, 3 advertisements for January Session.

Generally notification for admission is given in the dailies after the Regional Centre has received the prospectus and application forms from the Headquarter. The admission notification for 2009 July Session had been given on 17/3/2009, 22/4/2009, 30/4/2009, 9/7/2009 and 15/7/2009 (without late fee) and 18/7/2009, 31/7/2009 (with late fee of Rs. 200). Likewise, the admission notification for January 2010 Session had been given on 2nd September 2009, 11th Nov 2009 and 26th Nov 2009. The last date of the submission of application form was 15/12/ 2009. And the admission notification of the present session, July 2010 cycle has started from 18/3/2010 and is followed on 30/04/2010, 3/5//2010 and 21/6/2010. From the above details one can easily understand how much time is given for the prospective learners to enroll in IGNOU. During July 2009 Session itself students had been given chance to apply more than 4 months without late fee. Only 15 days had been announced as late fee session. Still, if the students can opt for walk in admission which will admit them to the next session throughout the year without paying late fee. Late fee for admissions is always Rs 200 not Rs 500. The main purpose and aim of IGNOU is to serve the students not to collect extra fee from the students. To help the prospective learner we give advertisement even on the last date also. It is a reminder only.

Regarding the particular learner paying Rs 500 as late fee was not for his admission; it was for his re-registration. It is mandatory for each and every student to get themselves re-registered for themselves. The details are given in prospectus and students’ hand book. Like the same, last date for filling up of form for Term - End Examination etc also is given in the prospectus. The time schedule and for structure do not change. It is the duty of the students to go through the prospectus thoroughly. Apart from this Advertisements are given in newspapers, queries are cleared in person as well as by phone calls and SMS Alert Services. Since from the launching of SMS Alert Services here on 26/5/2009 onwards, 23 messages had been notified to students through SMS Alert Service section. From July 2008 onwards till date, 48 advertisements(2008 – 17, 2009 – 21, 2010 – 7) had been given in the above mentioned three news papers about various activities of IGNOU apart from press releases Important information like, selection for B.ED, M.ED, MBA and Convocation list etc are intimated through phone apart from all other modes of communication. Here there is no question of communication gap arises. Apart from all these, a separate enquiry cell is working at the regional office, with the contact no 2247538, IGNOU Regional Centre Itanagar works even on Saturdays and Sundays. Many of the students are doing very well, some students from our Regional Centre secured above 80% in many courses. 176 students had qualified for various degrees, diplomas and certificates during the 20th Convocation, and 149 during 21st Convocation. Whatever may be the students support service are offered, students themselves also should realize their responsibility, if a student could not remember about his own enrolment no, year of enrolment or after taking registration, should write the exam during the same semester, who can help them. Responsibility lies on both. When a student of such a status is calling the Director, definitely officials dealing the concerned section had to be called for reference. How is it possible for one to remember the enrolment status of all the students? In the year 2009 itself 1526 students have registered.

The sarcastic tone echoed by the learner by the terms like ‘so called education’ clearly depicts the respect and commitment, he/she had for the system of education the same has enrolled. The ODL system of education offered by IGNOU is not less than the conventional system of education. IGNOU is now the world’s largest University with over 2.8 million students on roll. As the UNESCO observed in the silver jubilee lecture, IGNOU is a living embodiment of the concept of building inclusive knowledge societies in the globalised world. The university has contributed towards nation building in a great way. It has over these years evolved successful models of democratization of education training and capacity building. The quality of our study materials has got acknowledgement in the international level. Some of our students have qualified civil service examination also.

We never compromise with the quality. Though students are pursuing their education in ODL system, students come for contact seminars and practical based workshop, practical classes, and counseling sessions. The quantum of work done by B.ED & M.ED students during their practical based workshop here will tell about our quality concern.

Lastly an appeal to all the valuable learners of IGNOU is please adhere to the time schedules provided and instructions issued to the students time to time which will not only help the students but also facilitate quick disposal of matter related to students in our part. I request once again the students to realize their responsibility and let us resolve our mind to work with unity for the betterment of the people as we are the part of the peoples’ university.

Arunachal could show the way

Dear Editor,

Arunachal Pradesh is a state much talked about when it comes to tourism and undoubtedly is the most prospective states in the entire North eastern - states. Unlike other industry, tourism industry is one such sector which I feel; not only provides employment, generate income for the local population, brings more revenue to the state's exchequer but this industry can be used as a platform to bridge the gap among the people, most importantly the north-east. States like Arunachal must be exploited to the maximum when it comes to Tourism and open the door to the outside world. If this industry is given a priority collectively and make it something like a people's movement, Arunachal might well become a 'Pioneer of Change' for the entire North-East and for which the 7 (seven) sister state will remain indebted to it.

Chongkham takes stock of poor performance in schools

ITANAGAR, June 22: A coordination meeting of all Gaon Burahs, PR Members and teachers of Chongkham Block was held today to discuss due poor performance of schools.

The PRI members, GBs and general public expressed their displeasure with the teachers for being negligent while discharging their duties. Calling for necessary steps by concerned authorities, the leaders said that due to lack of interest by teachers in teaching, generation next is suffering. also blame the introduction of SSA.

Parliamentary secretary C T Mein said that teachers should take more interest and care for students. While lamenting lack of quality education, he said that teachers should not sacrifice the lives of student because of lack of sincerity. While asking the society to be more vigilant, he asked all the teachers to dedicate themselves for the cause of the society.

DDSE, Lohit, Kento Rina also expressed his dissatisfaction at the performance of the teachers. He assured that there will be no compromise with education and negligent teachers will be taken to task.

Chow Meaho Namchoom, working president, Khamti Singpho Council asked the teachers and students to take advantage of modern education facilities. The chairman of the meeting Tuli Gangkak i/c EAC Chongkham said that unequal distribution of teachers to the schools as one of the causes for poor performances. He further said that as per SSA guidelines, Village Education Committee is empowered to look after the school matters but unfortunately many of VEC members are not educated to comply with the rules. He said that to bring changes in education sector, public leaders, parents have to come forward.

Training cum-exposure visit on bee-keeping technology mission

ITANAGAR, June 22: A team of farmers including representatives of the Manghai Welfare Society (NGO), Sangram from Kurung Kumey district conducted a week-long training cum-exposure visit on bee-keeping technology mission scheme at sericulture farm, Sille in East Siang district recently. The team was guided by Kurung Kumey incharge DHO Tai Janu.

During their visit, Janu highlighting the importance of honey production urged the farmers to gain clear concept regarding the process of bee keeping so that they could train other farmers in their respective area.

Development officer of the sericulture farm T Tadeng explained in details about various aspects of honey production with special reference to Indian Bee. He also suggested the farmers to adopt mixed cropping system along with bee-keeping by planting some trees for rearing muga silkworm. Muga rearing scheme can be availed under the catalytic development programme (CDP). The programme is implemented by sericulture branch of the department of textile and handicraft, he further informed.

MWS president Ngorang Tado appealed the authorities to conduct such programme frequently for economic benefit of rural people.

Farmers meet at Maro

ITANAGAR, June 22: A three- day “Kishan Gosthi” programme organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Upper Subansiri District, at Maro Village concluded on June 20. The programme, sponsored by Agricultural Technology Management Agency, Daporijo was aimed mainly to extend new scientific technologies of agriculture and allied subjects through interactive discussions with the farmers. Around 95 farmers from Maro and neighbouring villages attended the Gosthi.

Agriculture Development Officer R. Duchok asked the farmers to extract maximum benefit from the Kishan Gosthi and share their field experience among farmers and technical staffs of KVK. He emphasized on the use of new and improved technology in the local condition for better production and overall development of the farm community.

Keeping in view the production potential of ginger in Arunachal Pradesh and to facilitate the ginger growers with improved storage facilities for storing ginger even up to 6-9 months which will help in fetching higher price during lean period, W. Purnima Devi, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) delivered a lecture on “An improved method of storage of ginger in fresh form”. She also enlightened the farmers with the importance of Azolla in rice cultivation and encouraged them to popularize and grow more Azolla in their paddy fields.

Nani Yampi, SMS (Plant Protection) discussed in detail through slide presentation on the topic “IPM on rice”. Highlighting the importance of Bordeaux mixture in pest and disease control, she also demonstrated, along with the farmers, the preparation of the chemical mixture.

On the following day, Dr. Bina Saikia, SMS (Animal Husbandry and Veterinary), delivered a lecture on “Poultry farming” covering different aspects of poultry management, housing, poultry diseases, treatment and preventive measures and this was followed by discussion on different diseases of pig, cattle, mithun, etc. Keeping in view of some endemic diseases, the farmers were asked to follow proper vaccination schedule and regular deworming.

Later, Dipjyoti Bora, Programme Assistant (Fisheries) lectured on “Integrated Pig cum Fish Farming” and encouraged the farmers to properly utilize pig and sty waste.

The Gosthi concluded on the third day with a talk on “Composting” and “Importance of soil testing and Sampling methods” by Nyape Bam, Farm Manager. He also conducted a quiz session on the discussed topic and the winners were distributed prizes to appreciate and encourage their active participation. The farmers were fully satisfied with the methodology of the programme.

11 months free Typewriting and Shorthand course training

ITANAGAR, June 22: Sub Regional Employment Officer, CGC for SC/ST, Naharlagun Olom Talom informed that the department is organising 11 months free special coaching programme on Typewriting and Shorthand for SC/ST candidates, including general English, general knowledge and computer basic training, sponsored by Director General of Employment and Training, Ministry of Labour and Employment, govt. of India.

The training would start from July 01 and the selection test/interview will be held on June 29.

Any SC/ST Class 10+2 passed interested candidate may apply or collect application form on production of educational qualification, age proof, caste certificate, employment registration card from SREO CGC for SC/ST, Naharlagun before June 26.

MLA inaugurates school

ROING, June 22: MLA Laeta Umbrey accompanied by YW Ringu, Deputy Commissioner has inaugurated Primary School at Maselo Village today.

Umbrey has assured to provide fund for electrification and purchase of furniture for the school through MLA LAD fund. He further assured to look into the other infrastructure need of the school once it starts functioning.

Deputy Commissioner of the district, Y W Ringu exhorted the parents to give opportunity to all their children in getting education. She also called for equal chances of education to girl child and requested the Village Education Council (VEC) to monitor for the effective functioning of the school.

She further asked the teachers to impart Science and Mathematics orientation to the students besides language.

DDSE T Tatak informed that the school building was constructed at the cost of Rs 6 Lacs. The school building funded by SSA was constructed by VEC as executing agency. He further informed that the school has a total of 43 students up to class 1 at present with 2 teachers.

APCYGTSU demands posting of COs

ITANAGAR, June 22: All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte and Tarak-Langdi Students Union (APCYGTSU) has urged the Govt for posting of COs both at Palin and Yangte HQs immediately.

In a three-point memorandum submitted to the Kurung Kumey deputy commissioner, the union resented that the Yangte CO had been performing dual charge due to non-posting of CO at Palin for last five months. However, presently the Yangte circle has no CO since its upgradation. Therefore the union urged the DC to take step for immediate posting of circle officers both at Palin and Yangte.

Expressing resentment over the alleged encroachment in Govt Hr Secondary school compound at Palin, the union also demanded clear cut demarcation of the school boundary and removal of encroachers. It further demanded reconstruction of boys hostel, which, the union said, was totally damaged.

Welly inaugurates upgraded Hr Sec School

ITANAGAR, June 22: Water Resources Development Minister Atum Welly has inaugurated a newly upgraded secondary school, Darlong at a mammoth gathering during his visit to Seijosa area on June 7 last. He announced a grant of Rs 10 lakh from his MLALAD fund for construction of RCC class rooms of the upgraded secondary school.

The minister also inaugurated a multipurpose hall at Seijosa and a mixed double badminton competition.

While addressing public meetings at both the places, the Minister assured to give priority to genuine public demands, according to an official release.

Pay heed to people’s grievances: CTAYWA

ITANAGAR, June 22: The Chayang Tajo Area Youth Welfare Association (CTAYWA) has appealed the local MLA and panchayat leaders to take bold steps towards solution to various problems being faced by the people of Chayang Tajo area within a month’s time.

Expressing resentment over reported non-completion of construction of BSNL tower in Chayangtajo, the Association alleged that the tower could not see the light of the day till date due to lack of coordination between panchayat leaders and DTO East Kameng.

People of Chayangtajo area is still deprived of modern facilities like internet, mobile and television, the Association said and appealed the Doordarshan, Itanagar, spread their tentacles to rich the far-flung area.

There is no any medical staff at Chayangtajo medical centre, the association claimed and demanded that authorities should ensure presence of Govt doctor and medical staff besides posting of experienced doctor in the health centre.

It also demanded infrastructure development of newly upgraded Chayangtajo higher secondary school and posting of experienced teachers.

Newly upgraded Siying Primary school inaugurated

PASIGHAT, June 22: The newly upgraded Primary School of Siying (Rani), Ruksin Educational Block under SSA mission was inaugurated by MLA Dr. Tangor Tapak yesterday.

While speaking on the occasion, Dr Tapak thanked the community members of Rani Village for construction of the OBT building on self-help basis. He conveyed his thanks to Tasup Tali of Rani Village who donated the land for the purpose and also the SSA team for commendable service to the district.

Social service to restore the Khonsa town roads

KHONSA, June 22: The All Tirap Students ‘Union in collaboration with district administration and bazaar welfare committee conducted a mass social service to restore the Khonsa town roads today.

They cleared the drains, garbage and filled-up the large potholes. The urban development department pressed into service a JCV to remove the water pipes that had blocked the drains.

It may be added here that due to incessant rain in the last few weeks the township roads have been badly damaged, making them difficult even for the pedestrians to walk, leave alone vehicles to ply. People living in the sweet fall colony suffered the most, even the vehicle owners had to go to office, hospitals, and market etc on foot as it was not possible for them to take vehicle.

On the sideline of the social service, the president of ATSU Somwang Homcha appreciated the concern of the DC for the deteriorating Khonsa roads and requested the urban Development department to supervise and monitor the ongoing work properly. Four Arunachalee karatekas to represent India in Japan event

ITANAGAR, Jun 22: Four Karate players from Arunachal Pradesh will represent the country at Wado World Karate-Do Cup to be held at Nagoya City, Japan from August 13 to 16 next.

According to Arunachal Wado-Kai Karate-Do Association release, Nanu Sangha, Rakom Dugi, Likha Lej and Sinne Mikhu have been selected from the state by Wado Kai Karate Do Federation of India to represent India in the event.

Both Nanu and Rakom will compete in senior category while Likha and Sinne will compete in sub-junior category.

Meanwhile, Association’s chief instructor Sensei Yarda Niki lauded all the karatekas for being selected to represent country at international event and hoped they will bring glory to the state as well as country by winning medal.

Sanjay calls for amendment

ITANAGAR: MP Takam Sanjay in a letter to the Prime Minister requested for an amendment to Article 164(1A) of the Constitution of India limiting the size of Council of Ministers to 30% for all North East States instead of 15% or 12 to enable state government to give proportionate-representation to various tribes in the council of ministers in these states. This change would also help give stability in North East States where there is frequent reshuffling of council of ministers due to political conflicts, he said. Political unrest is evident as there is no good governance or smooth functioning of government machinery as the tribal dominated states in the North East Region expect representation of all important tribes in the Council of Ministers and many of them are disgruntled for not finding a place in the council of ministers, he added.

Consultation on policy for children

ITANAGAR: ACR would organise a consultation on the proposed National Policy for Children on June 24.

The consultation is part of a national process, which has been initiated among others by the National Secretariat of the India Alliance for Child Rights. The purpose of the consultations is to brainstorm on the possible process to be followed in the Northeast. The diversity and nuances of issues pertaining to children can only be fairly reflected if consultations are held in all the states of the region with representation from civil society, the government and the knowledge institutions like the universities and research organisations, said an ACR release.

“Government Gazettes to Directorate Printing”

NAHARLAGUN: In view of the Govt. Order relating to Business of the Government of Arunachal Pradesh (allocation) Rules 1998, all matters pertaining to publication of all types of Government gazettes is now being done in the Directorate of Printing, Naharlagun.

In this regard, DIPR has issued a Circular today with the request to send all types of publication of Government Gazettes directly to the Directorate of Printing instead of Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Naharlagun.

HGB dies

ITANAGAR, June 22: District Congress Committee, East Kameng District, Seppa mourned the sudden demise of Lorong Degio, HGB, who died on June 19 at Bana camp in a road accident. He served as Zilla Parishad Member in 2003 but he later quit politics and joined as HGB, Yangsey village.

The members of the committee conveyed its condolence message to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

PASIGHAT, June 22: A team of executive members of ABK headed by its President Ajin Apang accompanied by Indigenous Tribal Verification Committee Chairman Batsu Perme along with a few senior citizens of Adi community visited Nongkong and Jaipur of Mahadevpur and Namsai area on June 20-21.
